[Reports](https://supporttest.go4schools.com/mis/reports?hsLang=en-gb) # Advanced School Data service reports More complex reports can be queried in the School Data Service using the 'Advanced mode' and by joining areas of data, for example student records with student contacts. The set up of a basic query follows the same steps in the article for the [SDS.](https://support.go4schools.com/en/support/solutions/articles/80001190525)Enabling the advanced mode adds the option to 'Join areas of data in Step 2 and offers a wider range of filters to build more complex reports.  ![](https://supporttest.go4schools.com/hs-fs/hubfs/undefined-Apr-10-2026-10-49-00-8993-AM.png?width=253&height=57&name=undefined-Apr-10-2026-10-49-00-8993-AM.png) Add the first data type to your query i.e. Student data to enable the Advanced mode.  In **(1) Select fields** click on +**Add an area**. ![](https://supporttest.go4schools.com/hs-fs/hubfs/undefined-Apr-10-2026-10-49-01-2977-AM.png?width=456&height=136&name=undefined-Apr-10-2026-10-49-01-2977-AM.png) Select from the available areas (more areas will be added as this is developed). ![](https://supporttest.go4schools.com/hs-fs/hubfs/undefined-Apr-10-2026-10-49-01-0913-AM.png?width=787&height=227&name=undefined-Apr-10-2026-10-49-01-0913-AM.png) Once selected, the areas will display under a new tab in (1) Select Fields, where the data can be chosen from each of the sub-areas of data.  ![](https://supporttest.go4schools.com/hs-fs/hubfs/undefined-Apr-10-2026-10-49-01-9214-AM.png?width=454&height=330&name=undefined-Apr-10-2026-10-49-01-9214-AM.png) Once the data is selected the areas need to be configured and joined in Step 2. ![](https://supporttest.go4schools.com/hs-fs/hubfs/undefined-Apr-10-2026-10-49-02-4024-AM.png?width=917&height=129&name=undefined-Apr-10-2026-10-49-02-4024-AM.png) Here you can see that the student data is joined to the student contact information. ![](https://supporttest.go4schools.com/hs-fs/hubfs/undefined-Apr-10-2026-10-49-01-4892-AM.png?width=784&height=412&name=undefined-Apr-10-2026-10-49-01-4892-AM.png) When configuring the join, the information needs to use a Primary key 'PK'.  A Primary key is linked to a Foreign key 'FK' so, in the example below, the student.id is linked via the StudentContact.studentId.  Once selected these can be linked. ![](https://supporttest.go4schools.com/hs-fs/hubfs/undefined-Apr-10-2026-10-49-02-1558-AM.png?width=907&height=237&name=undefined-Apr-10-2026-10-49-02-1558-AM.png)Add the filters in Step 3 to extract the data required in your query.  The example shows the filters for a report containing transport details, with parent contact details for all main school students, excluding post 16.
