[Timetables](https://supporttest.go4schools.com/mis/timetables?hsLang=en-gb) # Lesson displacements Lesson displacements give the option for students to be moved from their timetabled classes.  There are two types of displacement: 1. Add lesson displacement – add student to lesson(s) to show on their timetable and in the register but not display in a markbook. 2. Remove lesson displacement – remove student from lesson(s) to NOT show on their timetable but remain in a markbook. The most common application of this is when a student is removed from lessons for a specific subject for a set period, i.e. removed from Geography for a week due to poor behaviour and moved to lessons with a head of department or pastoral lead.  Lesson displacements allow a student to be added or removed from a group within a date range without needing to manipulate the groups. Displacements can be added for a specific period, for all periods in a day, or all periods across a date range for a specific group. ### **Permissions** To manage lesson displacements a user will need to be a school manager or have permissions for: 1. Can view lesson displacements 2. Can view timetables 3. Can view basic student information The lesson displacement page is available via **Curriculum \> timetables \> Lesson displacement** in the main menu and will only be visible if the school has the timetable feature toggle enabled in Settings. ### **Lesson attendance** When a student is displaced the if they retain their group membership and are visible in a markbook the attendance link from the markbook will display a register with the student visible. Where the attendance link from a timetable is used the student will always show in this register.    ### **Add a displacement** Note that if the student is already timetabled adding a displacement to a new subject/lesson will create a timetable clash so this will need to be resolved. Go to **Curriculum \> Timetables \> Lesson displacements** to navigate to the page to add a displacement.  The page has filters to change the academic year, select the timetable and date range for the displacements. ![A screenshot of a computer AI-generated content may be incorrect.](https://supporttest.go4schools.com/hs-fs/hubfs/undefined-Apr-10-2026-10-18-57-7210-AM.png?width=602&height=106&name=undefined-Apr-10-2026-10-18-57-7210-AM.png) Select '**+Add a new lesson displacement'** to view a modal to complete the details required. When students are selected their names will display in the modal prior to saving. **Check** – go to a student timetable and the new group should show in the specified timetable slots.  In the register a flag will show next to the student’s name so show they are displaced.  The student(s) will not show in the markbook for the selected group.   ### **Removing from a lesson** To remove the student from a lesson select '**Add lesson displacement'** to access the modal and complete the details as above but change the Action to **‘Remove’**. ![A screenshot of a computer AI-generated content may be incorrect.](https://supporttest.go4schools.com/hs-fs/hubfs/undefined-Apr-10-2026-10-18-58-1628-AM.png?width=601&height=291&name=undefined-Apr-10-2026-10-18-58-1628-AM.png) Select the student(s) to remove from a lesson and then save.
