[Exams](https://supporttest.go4schools.com/mis/exams?hsLang=en-gb) # Setting up exam seasons #### **Required permissions** **To create and manage the exams seasons you will need the following two permissions found under the Exams drop-down.** **![](https://supporttest.go4schools.com/hs-fs/hubfs/undefined-Apr-09-2026-11-38-05-8179-AM.png?width=1023&height=848&name=undefined-Apr-09-2026-11-38-05-8179-AM.png)** #### **Setting up an exam season** **Exam seasons can be used for external and/or internal exams and can be managed via Curriculum \> Exams \> Exam Seasons**. If seasons already exist, clicking on the exam season name will take you to the main season page, where you will see links for Basedata, Entries, Submissions and Schedule. To add a new season, click on the **+Add exam season** button in the top right-hand corner of the screen. ![A screenshot of a computer Description automatically generated](https://supporttest.go4schools.com/hs-fs/hubfs/undefined-Apr-09-2026-11-38-05-0172-AM.png?width=1379&height=333&name=undefined-Apr-09-2026-11-38-05-0172-AM.png)  A modal will pop-up allowing you to enter further details. ![](https://supporttest.go4schools.com/hs-fs/hubfs/undefined-Apr-09-2026-11-38-05-5249-AM.png?width=954&height=701&name=undefined-Apr-09-2026-11-38-05-5249-AM.png) - The Name field is free text, but it is recommended that seasons are given unique names, e.g. Summer 2025, December 2024 Trials, etc. - The start and end dates should be set to include all exams in the season (including contingency dates, if applicable).  If an exam is timetabled for a date after the end date, the season will move to the **Passed** tab, but any exams after that date will be unaffected. - The session sitting times can be tailored to suit your centre.  A warning will be displayed if you select times outside of the normal JCQ rules (no more than 30 minutes either side of the official start times of 09:00 and 13:30), but the timings can be saved. - Seasons can only be created if the Centre number is populated.  If this field is blank, please raise a Support ticket. - Use the toggle to indicate if the season is for Internal exams.   JCQ contingency dates can be added using the **Edit exam season** option.   From this page, you can also amend the season name, timetable visibility and session start times.   ![A screenshot of a computer Description automatically generated](https://supporttest.go4schools.com/hs-fs/hubfs/undefined-Apr-09-2026-11-38-06-0997-AM.png?width=1377&height=349&name=undefined-Apr-09-2026-11-38-06-0997-AM.png)   To add contingency dates, select the required date from the date picker, select the session (AM, PM or All day) and click on the + at the end of the row. ![A screenshot of a computer Description automatically generated](https://supporttest.go4schools.com/hs-fs/hubfs/undefined-Apr-09-2026-11-38-05-3100-AM.png?width=1321&height=224&name=undefined-Apr-09-2026-11-38-05-3100-AM.png) The +Add multiple contingency dates option allows you to add multiple, consecutive contingency dates.
