# Accessing seating plans as a teacher
Teachers can create their own seating plans for students within a classroom by assigning students to seating positions in room layouts. By using the school data sets, teachers can be fully informed about student targets, demographic information and key data to ensure students are positioned appropriately within their group.
Teachers can create multiple seating plans for a group, which may be required if:
- The group is taught in different classrooms for a different lessons e.g. lessons in an IT room and a classroom.
- The teacher has a differing layout dependent on learning content or styles e.g. theory vs practical lessons.
- The teacher may require ad-hoc/occasional seating plans for things like group activities or end of term tests.
There are several ways to access seating plans:
- From a teacher's timetable - a grey icon indicates that no seating plan exists for the group currently, whereas a blue icon indicates at least one seating plan for the group exists.
Clicking on a blue icon will show you the available seating plans, with the option to create a new one, while clicking on the grey icon will only allow you to create a new seating plan.
- From the subject pages and teachers' homepages - the same icons show next to each group.
- From the markbook page - there is a link available to
**view/create seating plans**.
- From the User/Teacher menu - both teacher and all group links are available.
