# Attendance FAQs
**Q. With which Management Information Systems (MIS) is the GO 4 Schools attendance module compatible?**
A. Tier one is compatible with all MIS's. Tiers two and three can be used by any schools, but the writeback facility is only compatible with SIMS at present.
**Q. Is session attendance data recorded in GO 4 Schools written back to the schools MIS?**
A. Yes (for SIMS schools only at present). Session attendance marks only are written back into SIMS to allow schools to submit an accurate school census.
**Q. How often is session attendance data written back to the MIS?**
A. Your school has control over this. Schools usually schedule a write-back to occur a few minutes after registration closes, and then possibly a few minutes after that to pick up ‘stragglers’. Your network management team are usually the people to contact regarding changes to the schedule.
**Q. Is lesson attendance data recorded in GO 4 Schools written back into the schools MIS?**
A. No. The recording of lesson attendance isn’t a statutory obligation or required for the school census in the same way that session attendance is, therefore it isn’t written back into the MIS.
**Q. Are comments entered into the register relating to session marks written back to the MIS?**
A. No. However it is possible to export marks with comments for individual students when required from GO 4 Schools.
**Q. Can we record attendance data both in the MIS and GO 4 Schools?**
A. We don’t recommend that attendance data is recorded in both GO 4 Schools and the MIS, simply to avoid inconsistency. For instance if a present mark is entered in to the MIS for a session and an absent mark is entered into GO 4 Schools, there would be no way of confirming which one is the correct mark.
**Please note**: If marks are entered in to the MIS after the transition, they will not overwrite the attendance marks in GO 4 Schools. But marks entered in GO 4 Schools will overwrite those in the MIS.
**Q. Can we use the attendance module for just one or two year groups as a trial?**
A. There is no option to do this at present as **all** marks must be entered into either your MIS or into GO 4 Schools.
**Q. What is the statistics and analysis displayed based on?**
A. The analysis and statistics shown in GO 4 Schools is based on session attendance only at present. The data shown is always AM and PM session attendance from the previous day. However, analysis for lesson attendance data will be added to the module gradually in the near future.
**Q. Can we use the existing attendance reports in our MIS?**
A. Yes, with tiers two and three of the attendance module GO 4 Schools will write session marks back to your MIS on a daily basis, enabling you to use the existing reports in your MIS.
**Q. Does GO 4 Schools retain a complete attendance log?**
A. Yes. GO 4 Schools retains a log of all changes to attendance records made within GO 4 Schools, including the date and time of the change and who made the change.
