# Attendance settings for all tiers
The below settings are applicable for all tiers of attendance, some of which need to be completed by the GO 4 Schools support team, others are editable by the school.
### **Settings controlled by GO 4 Schools**
- **Alias marks** - You will need to advise us of any alias marks that are used in your MIS, and what official codes they link to. This will allow GO 4 Schools to use these codes correctly in statistics.
- **First and last dates of the academic year** - key to ensuring correct attendance statistics.
- **Attendance bands** - GO 4 Schools will automatically groups students into default attendance bands according to their session attendance. Most schools will use the default attendance bands as below, if you wish to display alternative attendance bands, please provide the GO 4 Schools support team with details of the attendance bands that you would like.
### **Settings controlled by the school**
You can access your attendance settings via the attendance menu, and then the **Attendance settings** link:
#### **Attendance target**
GO 4 Schools can display a school-wide attendance target against which the current attendance percentage can be displayed. This target can be set by an attendance officer or school manager:
#### **Attendance visibility**
The visibility options allow you to hide attendance fully from parents/students, as well as enable the detailed attendance page for them. By default attendance is set to be visible, but the detailed page is not:
Finally you can choose to exclude today's attendance marks from the student attendance page - this will show their attendance as it was at the end of the previous day, and is active for all users:
#### **Displaying parental contact details**
By default GO 4 Schools harvests parental contact details from your MIS on a nightly basis but discards phone numbers for data protection reasons. We can, however, retain the parental phone numbers and make these and parental email addresses available to staff, including attendance officers, which can help with the process of contacting parents. School managers can change this setting via the **Contact details and settings** page, but changes will only take effect after an overnight feed has been processed. Once enabled, parental phone numbers and emails are visible via the envelope icon on the student page, as well as on various attendance-related pages.
#### **Setting up student attributes for analysis**
**Student attributes** are extra data held about students, such as their sex, ethnicity, pupil premium status, etc. As part of the analysis provided by the attendance module, GO 4 Schools will compare attendance figures for students with different values within the attribute. For example, for the pupil premium attribute, it will compare the attendance for students with a pupil premium value of **Yes** against those with **No**. School managers can access the student attributes under the **People** menu, and then set the flag to use the attribute for analysis of attendance:
