# Attendance Settings for tiers two and three
For tiers two and three, there are additional settings relating to the configuration of the registers and the way attendance is recorded in GO 4 Schools. Some of the settings can only be applied by the GO 4 Schools team.
### **Settings controlled by GO 4 Schools**
The columns that appear in attendance registers hold two different types of attendance data: session (AM/PM) and lesson attendance. Depending on whether you have timetabled your registration period, we can link lesson columns to session columns to save duplicate entry of attendance marks. The GO 4 Schools support team can:
- Link specific lessons to the AM/PM session columns, which can vary for different year groups, and different days.
- Link the first timetabled lesson in the session to the AM/PM session column (useful for sixth form students who may not be timetabled for the first lesson of a session).
Recording lesson attendance for guest pupils - By default guest pupils will not appear on school registers. If you school is a consortium, where you are responsible for recording lesson attendance for guest students, please raise a support ticket to request this functionality be enabled for your school.
### **Settings controlled by the school**
You can access your attendance settings via the attendance menu, and then the **Attendance settings** link:
The first setting controls how your AM/PM session columns are displayed on registers, either in line (based on the start times of the sessions), or fixed on the left:
The next setting lets you control the auto-return functionality. This is useful for teaching staff as it automatically moves the cursor to the next student after entering a mark, as attendance officers and school managers tend to work in different ways with attendance, there is an option to have it enabled for all staff besides those users:
The option to normalise present marks is enabled by default, and will make sure that all AM marks are **/** while all PM present marks will display as **\\** - no matter which is entered by the user.
GO 4 Schools allows you to prevent teaching staff changing attendance marks that are more than a certain number of days in the past or future. This cut-off does not affect attendance officers, who can change marks for any time:
