# Behaviour module overview and terminology
The GO 4 Schools behaviour module is designed to make it easy for staff to record behaviour events within school quickly, easily, and consistently - online. The system is an empty box, in that you specify the types of behaviour events that you want to record, and how you want staff to respond to them.
In order to make it easier to describe the processes involved in setting up the behaviour module, it is useful to understand some key terminology:
- **Event type** - This is a particular type of event, such as **Rudeness to staff** or **Use of mobile phone on school premises** or **Outstanding contribution in class**. You can define as many different event types as needed.
- **Behaviour classifications** - These are groups of vents that you want dealt with in a consistent way. For example, while **Rudeness to staff** and **Swearing** are different types of event, you may want staff to respond to them in the same way, so you would organise them into the same classification. Generally while you will have many different event types, they can be organised into much smaller classifications. The classifications set the point score for all events within, as well as the immediate and follow up actions assigned.
- **Immediate actions** - These are actions that you want staff to perform as soon as a particular event occurs. Typical immediate actions might be **Discuss incident with student** or **Verbal warning**. You can define a pool of immediate actions and then draw from this pool when setting up your classifications.
- **Follow-up actions** - These are actions that staff may perform after-the-fact, such as **Letter home** or **Meeting with parent**. As with immediate actions, you can define a pool , and draw from this pool when setting up your classifications.
- **Standard action** - These actions are standard actions, and generally include things like **Discuss incident with student** or **Praise student**.
- **Detention action** - These actions are flagged as detentions, but are not part of the managed detention system, typically used for detentions managed by individual teachers, not centrally managed.
- **Managed detention action** - These actions flag the event for the managed detention module, and will require allocating to a detention session that is centrally managed.
**Note:** Staff do not need to be aware of the behaviour classifications - they just choose the appropriate event type from a list and GO 4 Schools provides the actions which are necessary based on the classification you have assigned the event to. This brings consistency as staff do not have to refer to the behaviour policy.
