# Controlling the detail seen by students and parents in a markbook

In the **Visibility** section of the markbook editor, you can determine what level of visibility you provide to students and parents. If the individual assessments are hidden, students/parents will simply see a summative grade for each marksheet plus an overall summative grade for the course. If the marksheets are hidden, students/parents will only see the summative grade for the course. These options can be useful to stop parents seeing too much information leading to phone calls to the school about poor marks earned by students in low-importance tests.
