# Enabling managed detentions

By default the managed detention system is not enabled when the behaviour module is enabled. To enable the module, you need to access your settings page of the **Contact details and settings**, which is available under the **Manage menu**.

Enabling detention notifications allows you to send emails/online inbox messages to notify of detentions.

The checkbox to **Show detention details on the student full behaviour record** will enable additional detention data on the student page full behaviour record:

You may not wish students and parents to be able to see the supervisor and room, the drop down will allow you to show it to students, parents, or both.

To alert teachers to upcoming detentions for students in their groups, there is a setting to flag markbooks, registers, and teacher home pages where their students have upcoming detentions.
