# Heatmap assessment level data/QLA tracking
## Markbooks in GO 4 Schools have an option to view a heatmap of the results that student achieved at assessment level to support question level analysis and wider review of student performance across assessments. This is visible in group markbooks and the 'all students' markbook for a specific subject.
Navigate to a markbook and then select a marksheet to view the detailed assessment data. There is a tick box for 'QLA tracking' which will produce a heatmap for all assessments for grade and mark entries.
The top row of the marksheet will also display the average mark or grade achieved by the students in the group/subject including the total and marksheet grade columns (if enabled in markbook editor).
Once ticked, each assessment column can be sorted to easily rank students by how they performed for each specific question.

The heatmap in the marksheet is based on quintile colouring and does not relate to the residual scheme in use to track progress and target grades.
If changes are made to the assessment data the entry must be saved and the QLA tracking reapplied to recalculate.
**Worked examples**
1\. **A markbook based on a percentage tracking scheme** - This is an example of a marksheet with some low stakes testing and QLA tracking enabled. The marksheet has been sorted by 'Current grade' so those students with the lowest grade are visible at the top of the marksheet. When reviewing the averages for assessments out of 20 marks, the group average per test is around 15 marks, so small gains could make a big difference with this group.
2\. **Combined grade and mark marksheets** - In this example the marksheet contains both grade and mark assessment entry and is set to use the rightmost exam mark entry. With QLA tracking enabled the grade assessments show the average grade and colouring based on the students grade difference on the 9-1 grading scheme. The final test result, which is a raw mark, shows how well students did in the test out of 20 marks, and this is then contributing to the overall current grade.
3\. **Non curriculum example** - this is a markbook set up to count the extra-curricular activities undertaken by students. The highlighting makes it easy to view students who have participated, but more importantly the average row is showing the percentage of students in this markbook who were involved. So below it is clear that 72% of the group are involved in DoE but no students are participating in any musical events.
**Subject Explorers**
The QLA tracking checkbox is also available in the subject explorers to view in the table view or the postcard view. Select the Assessments from the picker and include all the mark value assessments as below. Note if downloaded as a CSV the colouring will not be included.
**The Postcard** view in the Subject explorer also will display the QLA colours ready for printing, photos can be removed.

Select View subject in detail and the tab to View Marksheet in detail and select the QLA tracking to enable the view.
