# KS5 year group statistics - explanatory notes
### **Level 3 value Added (L3VA)**

#### **A Level**
To be included in the A Level cohort the student must have entered at least one Advanced, Advanced Subsidiary, Applied Advanced, Applied subsidiary, double or combined Advance/Advanced subsidiary Level qualification. The A Level cohort is a subset of the Academic cohort so to calculate the measure for Academic and A level the prior attainment is based on their average attainment in **ALL full course GCSE's** (i.e., not capped and not including equivalences). #### **Academic**
To be included the student must have been entered for one of the following qualifications, which must be equivalent in size to at least 0.5 A Levels, with the exception of the extended project: A levels (as listed above, as the A level cohort is a sub-set of the academic category), IB, Pre-U, Extended Project (Diploma), Advanced Extension Award, Core Maths Qualifications at level 3, FSMQ.
#### **Applied General**
The list of high value level 3 vocational qualifications recognised in the performance tables can be found [here](https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/16-to-19-qualifications-discount-codes-and-point-scores). To be included in the applied general cohort the student must have entered at least one of these qualifications in the year they are allocated to the provider. To calculate the Applied General Value Added student's prior attainment is based on their average attainment in **all qualifications achieved at KS4**. Only qualifications achieved during key stage 4 are included in the prior attainment calculation and they are included if they met the rules for inclusion in the key stage 4 tables for that year. Re-sits or additional qualifications gained during the 16-18 study phase are not included. This ensures a consistent baseline for all students.
### **APS Points per entry**
The article **[Analysing by average point score per entry](https://support.go4schools.com/en/support/solutions/articles/80000965491)** will explain this measure in detail. **Average A Level (or equivalent) APS per entry** is calculated by adding all the Level 3 qualification APS points scores together and dividing them by the total size of all the entries.

### **Level 3 Maths attainment**
This measure applies to post 16 students who have achieved a standard pass or above during Key Stage 4 (or equivalent) at Grade 4 or above. These students will then be "in scope" of the measure (students who have the opportunity to study/achieve a Level 3 Maths qualification). Currently this measure in not in published in the 16-18 accountability measures and can be hidden in the Statistics and analysis settings.
### **Best 3 A Levels**

This measure applies to A level students (including Applied A Levels) who have entered at least one full size A level and **no other** applied or technical qualifications (of equal or greater size to an A level). Note that : AS levels, Applied AS levels, General Studies A level and Critical Thinking A level do not count in this measure.
