# Overview of interactive Subject ribbons
On each subject page there is a set of interactive ribbons which can provide instant statistics as well as student specific information.
As a default the ribbons show your residual outputs, and grade distribution for your two main tracking grades - Preferred progress and preferred target grades.
You can see here that there is a ribbon for each teaching group, and an ‘Overall’ row for your subject total.
Hovering over a segment will show you details
Clicking the segment brings up a list of pupils included in the segment, and an option to open them up in a data explorer.
#### **Subject analysis**
If you need to know how your subject is performing for key groups, you can ‘Add ribbons(s)’ and select the groups that you need.
You can choose pupil groups from the left, or different grade types/combinations on the right.
Here I’ve chosen EAL, Sex and FSM – I now have a ribbon for each.
By hovering over a ribbon I get this box, which links to the image and data table that sits behind the ribbon.
Looking at the table, I can see the number of pupils in each segment, and can quickly see if there are any significant gaps between my EAL Yes/No. This data is still ‘Live’ and so by clicking on any number I can still get the list of students in that segment.
By clicking the buttons above the table I can switch to percentages, or both, and can also set to calculate cumulatively (counting from the right) to show the percentage of students who are ‘On target’ or above.
Ideally you would want to see this background data for all of the ribbons in one place. If you go to the top ribbon and hover, you get 2 table icons.
The box at the top opens data for the whole column.
This could be your subject analysis for Line management meetings. Instant statistics can also be downloaded or printed – however, that would lose the ‘live’ aspect if drilling down to student level.
You can use a similar process with your different grade types. This will show you the grade distribution across your teaching groups, and also across your pupil types. Particularly in large subjects like Maths and English, you can see quickly if you have any top set students who are performing below some of the middle set pupils and then have the discussion about re-setting.
Again, the data is live so you can click to see student names.
By applying the cumulative and percentage buttons, you can see the percentage of students at each grade or above, also broken down by any focus groups that you have selected.
Once you have set up your ribbons with the grades and groups that you want to monitor, you can ‘Remember ribbons’. This saves the set of ribbons for a user on a device. If you switch to a different computer you will still have to re-add them.
