# Taking an attendance register
### **Teacher settings**
To enable quick access to your timetable, markbook and group data, you should ensure you have linked your account to a teacher in GO 4 Schools. To do this, click on **Settings** from the user menu atop the right of GO 4 Schools:
Then, locate your name in the **Link your account to a teacher** section. Select the name (it will highlight blue) then click on **Choose teacher** to apply.
You'll now have access to a **Teacher** menu (having no teacher linked shows a **User** menu instead). Expand this menu to see various shortcuts relevant to you.
### **Accessing registers**
Groups in the **Teacher** menu can be expanded - notice these groups are specific to a teacher:
You'll find a register icon  across GO 4 Schools, clicking on it will take you to a relevant register.
For example, in the **Timetable** view:
At the top of every Markbook, amongst the links, there's **group attendance** link:
Explore the **Pathfinder**  menu, each Year group expands to its subjects, which expands to its groups, which expands to useful links for that group:
### **Using the Register**
The following screen shows a register of a class - the students will be relative to the register of the class you've opened - start by clicking on a cell.
*Notice some cells are grey, indicating that they cannot be edited.*
The bar along the top contains:
- Button **H**, click on it & specify the attendance codes you wish to highlight in the register
*L for Lessons, S for sessions*
- Button **C** which toggles a compact view of the register
- **Enable Auto return**, when checked, will automatically move down the cell selection to the next student after you've made an entry
When you've selected a cell - a pop-up will show up with marks available for you to use:
*TIP! You can also use your keyboard keys to input codes.*
To view/add **Notes** or **Minutes Late**, click on the extend button **"\>"** (pointed by the green arrow below). The below screen shows Period 2 before, and Period 3 after clicking the extend button:
Once all attendance marks and notes have been added, click the save button at the bottom of the screen to save your register.
