# Working with data snapshots
To further support schools in analysing data over time, GO 4 Schools provides a data snapshot functionality alongside the standard reporting functionality.
To access the data snapshot functionality, browse under the **Curriculum** menu, **Reports & Snapshot**, and then **Manage**.
#### **Creating a data snapshot**
On the report page you need to select the option to **Create a new data snapshot:**

As with the report functionality you will need to name the snapshot, select the appropriate year group, and then **Create**. The name of the snapshot, along with the date it was created will show in the outputs.
#### **Snapshot data management page**
This page shows all information about the data snapshot prior to capturing the data. Once the data is captured, GO 4 Schools will capture all grade types for all students for all subjects in the specified year group. This will allow schools to use settings to control what data is displayed when viewing data outputs rather than using different subsets of data based on published reports.
The first section of the page allows the data to be reviewed, downloaded, or deleted permanently, as well as the ability to capture the data snapshot:
The second section of the page will display the grades enabled, although even disabled grade types are included, so that they may be used in outputs while not displaying to staff. A count of subjects and students included is visible as a validation of the data as a quick check:
Finally, prior to capturing the data, you can use the option to view **Groups with missing grades**, which will display all enabled grade types by default so this can be used to check for missing data to optimise the set of captured information to review via the outputs in GO 4 Schools. The checkbox below will allow you to also check disabled grade types as well:
When choosing to **Capture snapshot** a confirmation message will appear prior to the data being captured:
Once captured the report listing page will show whether the listing is a data snapshot or report and data snapshot.
**NB: When producing a student report a full data snapshot is also taken at the same time.**
#### **Viewing snapshot data**
There are several pages in GO 4 Schools that allow you to view the data as captured in report and data snapshots. The outputs will also be affected by students who may be excluded from statistics due to factors such as enrolment status, and the "Excluded from statistics" attribute.
- **[Attainment over time](http://support.go4schools.com/modular/attainment-over-time)** and **[Curriculum overview page](http://support.go4schools.com/modular/curriculum-overview-page)** - these pages will show report and data snapshots. Please be aware that reports snapshot before January 2024 may not have all grades for all students included in the data set.
- Subject and detailed statistics page - when selecting to **Change** the data being reviewed, there are tabulated options for both reports and data snapshots:
