Colour coding

GO 4 Schools calculates a residual score for each student in each subject as a measure of the difference between their target grade and their progress grade. Residual Schemes functionality in GO 4 Schools allows you to convert this score into a text label and/or colour which can be displayed in markbooks, to parents and students, and can be used in progress reports too. You can create multiple schemes and assign different schemes to different year groups and/or subjects. This functionality will need to be set up by a school manager before it can be seen and used.

If enabled the GO 4 Schools default scheme uses the following pattern:

Purple for above target

Green for on target

Yellow for below target

Red for very below target

There is some variation in the colour coding that can be managed by your school manager using residual schemes. They will be able to choose which targets the comparisons are done against, for example the colour may compare the current grade with the combined target grade (default), or the projected grade against the external target grade, etc. School managers can control the residual differences of the colour coding and banding labels. For some grades you would want to see a change in colour for just 1 grade over or under target, for example a GCSE grade of B vs A. However at some stages a grade change of 1 is not significant, so the sensitivity can be set higher, for example at KS3 you may want to see a colour change for a grade difference of 3 or more for example, Emerging to Secure if using a mastery scheme.
