Orphaned Grades

Orphaned grades are grades that were uploaded for a student for a particular subject, and since that time the student has left the subject. We do not remove the grades automatically when a student is moved out of a subject, as you may still want to access the information. In order to view the orphaned grades, you can download that set of grades. If you need to remove an orphaned grade you will need to use the Remove link to remove all grades for that subject.

Orphaned grades will only cause issues if you are trying to change the qualification attached to a markbook, and the new qualification’s grades are not of the same type as grades uploaded to the subject (and this includes orphaned grades). In this scenario, the orphaned grade needs to be removed.

It should also be noted that orphaned grades are NOT counted in statistics. The only scenario we have seen where this causes an issue is where a school has uploaded actual grades using a subject name, and the student has since left the subject. The actual grade will then not count in statistics. In this scenario the actual grade will need to be uploaded using the QAN code in order to count in statistics.
