Why do the attendance statistics we see in GO 4 Schools differ from those in our MIS?

Schools without the GO 4 Schools attendance module

  • The data in your MIS is the very latest data and will include data entered today whereas the data in GO 4 Schools is typically that from the end of the previous day. However if you'd like to change the time that attendance is updated in GO 4 Schools, this can be managed on the GO 4 Schools Feed Tool.
  • There are numerous types of attendance marks that students can have, including "Present", "Authorised absence", "Unauthorised absence", "Approved Education Activity" and "Missing" (i.e. there is no mark present for a session), etc. For simplicity for parents and students, GO 4 Schools reclassifies all marks as just "Present", "Authorised absence" and "Unauthorised absence". "Missing" marks are treated as absences.

Schools with any tier of the GO 4 Schools attendance module

  • First spot check a few students in GO 4 Schools and your MIS. Compare the attendance breakdown which might pinpoint issues with calendars. Do all students show a marginal difference between systems, or can you find particular students with issues?
  • Check the calendar is correctly setup in GO 4 Schools. If you have a partial closure mark the day as open in GO 4 Schools, and bulk fill the # code in the registers for students who are not required to attend.
  • Does GO 4 Schools show some students counting in attendance who should not? These may be students who never turned up at the school. One way to spot these students is on your main attendance statistics page. At the bottom of the page is a list of persistent absentees, and often a student showing in this list with 0% attendance should be removed from the attendance statistics (if you know that they will not be counting as part of your census). Please put the names of any students that should not count in your attendance statistics in a support ticket, and we can remove them.

  • Check how long since the last successful writeback on the attendance feed status page. The timings of the writebacks are controlled by the GO 4 Schools Feed Tool, but if you believe there are any issues please raise a support ticket.

  • By default we receive session information for the last 2 weeks. If your attendance officer has gone further back in time to correct attendance, this will not necessarily have fed through to GO 4 Schools. For SIMs schools, please ask your Network Manager to flush through attendance data from the start of the academic year. For other MISs, please raise a support ticket with us.
  • Do you have alias or non-standard DfE attendance marks in use in your MIS? We'll need to map non-standard codes so they have the correct statistical meaning. Please raise a support ticket with this information.
